The most important way you can help your child in school is to take an active interest in what they are learning. Share your ideas and opinions about events and literature they are being asked to study. Read the same books and share your impressions and LISTEN to theirs.
Many 8th graders need no assistance in succeeding. If this is the case, let your child thrive in their independence. Parents should allow their 8th grader to work as independently as possible to develop the skills and logic necessary to succeed in high school and beyond. That said, there are times when it is okay to step in.
it doesn't hurt to be the FINAL editor of a written paper. (AFTER your student has done multiple drafts and thinks it is ready to turn in, look it over for spelling, punctuation, grammar). Do not change any content as that may dismiss their ideas or undermine their thought processes, making them feel as though their ideas are not good enough.
Before a test, it is okay to help them to be sure their notes are in order and use the study guide to "test their knowledge."
If you have a student who frequently misses due dates, you may still need to check Pinnacle with them and help them organize their time.
